3 Benefits when Controlling the Forward Move

The importance of balance, posture and the hips when loading and then “exploding”

In the video above, Coach Ty Jacobs of HitStreak explains the benefits of the “hover drill” and why a proper load can have many benefits to a hitter.

As Ty explains, a common flaw of many young players is that they will rush in and out of the load position and have trouble maintaining control of their body as they begin the swing. One huge detriment to this incorrect move is that it doesn’t allow the player to see the pitch very long and jumpstarts a rushed sequence.

Ty explains the thought process of driving the front hip towards the pitcher, rather than just the front foot before exploding through the ball. By maintaining balance and posture in the load, Ty explains three benefits when property controlling the forward move:

  1. The ability to read the pitch longer

  2. Keeping the body in an athletic position through the swing

  3. Hitting for more power!

Whether a beginning young baseball or softball hitter or a more advanced older player, this drill can help get your player’s swing back to a proper starting point with the goal of maximum impact at contact.
